Quezon City Police District director Police Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr. vows to hunt down the suspects in the killing of a QCPD policeman.

Police Master Sgt. Anthony Lacson, 40, desk officer at Police Station 9, was shot down at about 6 p.m., Saturday, 17 August along Anonas Road corner Pajo Street, Barangay Quirino 2A, Project 2, Quezon City.

Esquivel ordered the immediate creation and activation of a Special Investigation Task Group, dubbed “SITG Lacson,” to probe the shooting.

It is headed by Deputy District Director for Operations Police Col. Enrico Vargas together with nine members to facilitate the investigation and speedy resolution of the shooting.

“We will not stop in running after the killers,” the OCPD director said. “Rest assured that we will identify the suspects and arrest them in the soonest time.”

A witness to the killing said he saw the assailants chase Lacson who was on board his motorcycle. When the policeman fell to the ground, the suspects approached him and shot him several times before leaving the crime scene on their bike.

Lacson was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center.

Scene of the crime operatives recovered from the crime scene five fired cartridges and two deformed fired bullets.

The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) at the QCPD headquarters in Camp Karingal for proper investigation and disposition.

In an interview, Police Major Elmer Monsalve, CIDU chief, said the victim’s live-in partner confirmed that Lacson had been receiving death threats prior to Saturday night’s incident.

Monsalve said they are conducting a probe to determine the motive behind the attack to immediately arrest the perpetrators.

Esquivel is appealing to the public for any leads on the case.

“We are calling on the public who saw or has information on the incident to help by reporting what they know to us for the easy resolution of this case,” he stressed.
