No problem on gender-neutral bathrooms
BAGUIO CITY — Should one decide to go to a public restroom, no one has to worry as the city assured that no gender discrimination will take place given that it has no prejudice against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) movement.
This was as the Baguio City government renewed its contract with R&R Management and Sanitary Services who maintains the city’s public restrooms, which said that they are not discriminatory against anyone who has a particular gender preference when it came to using restrooms.
During a meeting with the Baguio City officials, R&R staffer Jennelyn Compas said that in more than 15 years of their operations, the company has no issue with the LGBT+ particularly on the use of the comfort rooms.
Recent news broke on a transgender who was ostracized after entering a comfortable room designated for females. The R&R team said they will not encounter such problem.
Compas said they have always respected the rights of LGBT+, similar to how they respect the rights of their other costumers.
She added that while they have only the traditional female and male rooms, they see to it that they can also cater to their LGBT customers who have preference on the use of their facilities.
Compas said that their attendants were always available to assist them to the rooms they preferred to ensure that there will be unnecessary scenarios that will happen such as the recent LGBT+ incident.
The company is also open in allotting gender-neutral comfort rooms whenever they will be asked to provide such, or install appropriate signage to cater to all gender orientations and preference.
