Fuel prices probe sought
Puerto Princesa, Palawan — A city councilor filed a resolution to seek a congressional inquiry and investigate the exorbitant selling prices of diesel and gasoline in the city by different gasoline stations.
City councilor Peter Maristela filed the resolution before the regular session of the City Council Monday to seek a congressional inquiry about the varying difference of prices on diesel and gasoline as compared to other cities, which is comparatively higher for Puerto Prinsesa.
Maristela said the current price of gasoline per liter in the city of Puerto Princesa is ranging from P59 to P62, while in Metro Manila, prices range from P49 to P52.
Meanwhile, diesel prices range from P50 to P51 in Puerto Prinsesa, but ranges from P41 to P43 in Calapan, P45 to P50 in Occidental Mindoro and P43 to P49 in Marinduque. In Metro Manila, diesel ranges at a low of P37 to P44.
“It can be observed that the price difference in the above-mentioned places is comparatively high,” Maristela said, adding that the price difference is an additional burden to the people as it directly affects the economy of Puerto Princesa City.
Maristela said the Constitution essentially provides that the Senate or the Lower House or any of its respective committees may conduct inquiries in aid of legislation in accordance with its rules and procedure.
“It is important to create a measure that will protect the general welfare of the people,” Maristela said.
