Tagum intensifies checkpoints

- MJM

The Tagum City Council has passed a resolution calling for heightened security measures to further strengthen the city’s agenda for genuine peace and safety for all.

The council particularly wanted to intensify city-wide checkpoint operations.

According to the Tagum City Public Information Office, the passage of the resolution was in response to the request of the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) which consists of members from the local law enforcement agencies.

In a joint meeting of the CPOC, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council and the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, it was agreed that pro-active measures, like intensified checkpoint operations, are necessary.

The council also tackled the recent killing incidents in the city.

Tagum City Police Station chief Lt. Col. Philip Jefferson Ayban maintained that the intensified security measures were not made due to existing threat.

Ayban denied the threat warnings disseminated allegedly by the Tagum police circulating through social media, saying that legitimate advisories coming from their office are only posted on the official Facebook page of the Tagum City Police Station.

He urged the public to report any suspicious person in any area at Tagum city and call immediately Police Station Hotline number at 09267171522.

The Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines are currently conducting 24-hour patrols and extensive inspection at checkpoints located at strategic areas in Tagum City.
