Chinese workers hit by dengue

The provincial government stressed that the Provincial Health Office should ensure that the foreign workers have good working environmen­t

BALANGA CITY, Bataan — The local government here has directed the Provincial Health Office (PHO) to check on the condition of Chinese workers at a coal plant in Mariveles town following confirmati­on that more than 100 of them were afflicted with dengue.

Vice Gov. Ma. Cristina Garcia tasked the Bataan PHO to conduct survey among the workers of GN Power plant where 120 Chinese workers were diagnosed with dengue.

The PHO has recorded a total of 398 dengue cases in Mariveles, including the Chinese.

During a regular session of the Provincial Board, Board Member Godofredo Galicia, who is a physician by profession, brought up the matter.

Prior to the discovery of the sick Chinese, the PHO only recorded 57 dengue cases in Mariveles.

The Bataan provincial government stressed that the PHO should ensure that the foreign workers are in good working environmen­t.

Throughout the province, Dr. Rosanna Buccahan, PHO chief, said that they have recorded a total of 771 dengue cases from January to July this year.

Buccahan said that the figure was 20 percent lower than the 1,100 dengue cases registered on the same period last year.
