21 August 1983 — Ninoy Aquino was assassinated at the Manila International Airport.
2 December 1985 — President Marcos signed Cabinet Bill 7, formally scheduling the Snap Elections on 7 February 1986.
1986 — Batasan Pambansa declares Marcos as President-elect and Arturo Tolentino as vice-president elect. On the same day, Cory Aquino was also proclaimed President at Rizal Park.
22 February 1986 — Filipinos led a peaceful rally along EDSA. The protest was then known as the “People Power Revolution.”
22 July 1987 — Thirteen protesting farmers who were hoping to have a dialogue with President Cory were shot to death during the “Mendiola Massacre.”
30 June 1992 — Cory’s term as president of the Philippines ends. She is then succeeded by Fidel V. Ramos.
21 September 1997 — Cory and Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin lead protests against Ramos’ attempts to change the constitution to be head of state.
16 January 2004 – Cory endorses impeachment of President Joseph Estrada during the “People Power II.”
16 November 2004 — News of a “massacre” of workers of Hacienda Luisita, a Cojuangco-owned plantation and milling property, broke out.
20 January 2001 — Gloria Macapagal Arroyo becomes the country’s 14th president. Altogether she served nine years, three years af ter Estrada was ousted and six years after she was reelected in 2004.
1 August 2009 — Cory Aquino succumbs to colon cancer at the age of 76.
30 June 2010 — Noynoy Aquino was sworn into presidency, succeeding Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
25 January 2015 — 44 Special Action Force commandos were murdered during an encounter with MILF and BIFF fighters.
30 June 2016 — Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte assumes presidency, becoming the 16th President of the Philippines.
