Standhardinger stays
At least for the season-ending Governors’ Cup, Christian Standhardinger will remain with grand slam-seeking San Miguel Beer.
Beermen head coach Leo Austria is aware of the trade talks surrounding the Filipino-German center and the way he played in the just-concluded Commissioner’s Cup finals, he won’t be surprised if more teams will inquire about the services of the 30-year old big man.
“Even before the second conference, there are already offers but as of now there’s no information from the management about the trade,” said Austria as the team celebrated its championship Tuesday at the San Miguel Corporate Office in Ortigas.
“If you noticed how he played in the championship, it seems that he’s happy with his role. And that’s the manifestation that Christian is really an asset in any team,” he added. Standhardinger was a crucial piece in San Miguel’s victory over TNT, providing defense on KaTropa’s explosive import Terrence Jones.
And in the coming Governors’ Cup, Austria sees the minutes of the two-year pro to go up as the import ceiling is pegged at six feet and five inches.
“In the Governors’ Cup, there will be no tall import. And I think his minutes will improve,” Austria said.
I just play hard as possible and try to contribute. I’m not really thinking of those things.
The six-foot-seven Standhardinger also ignored the trade talks and his focus now is to help the Beermen bag the franchise’s second grand slam.
“Whatever the management does, as a player I stay away from those questions. I just play my game, whatever happens, happens,” Standhardinger said.
“I just play hard as possible and try to contribute. I’m not really thinking of those things.”
In the upcoming Governors’ Cup, San Miguel is parading Dez Wells, who will serve as reinforcement along with Lester Prosper in the Terrific 12 international club tournament next month in Macau.
