Following reports of a slain Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) official surfaced, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar on Wednesday stressed the incident was not related to the issue on the possible release of former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez.

In a radio interview, Eleazar said the slay of BuCor official Ruperto Traya is still being probed, and initial investigations revealed that there is no connection between the killing and the issue of Sanchez’s possible release.

The NCRPO chief added that authorities are investigating the alleged involvement of Traya in illegal drugs.

“The information we have right now is that Traya was transferred to Leyte because there were allegations that he was involved in illegal drugs,” Eleazar said.

Earlier, Muntinlupa City police chief Col. Gerardo Umayao said their investigation showed that Traya got off his car to open the gate of his rented parking lot along Amparo street in Barangay Poblacion when the gunman arrived, shot the victim on the head, and fled the crime scene.

While investigators have yet to determine the motive for the killing, Umayao has ordered a follow-up investigation for the possible identification of the suspect.
