Maynilad allots P6B for Las Piñas sewerage project
The sewerage system will enable the catchment of wastewater generated by some 600,000 customers in 20 barangays in the city, and convey it to the Las Piñas Water Reclamation Facility for proper treatment
West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. is setting aside P6 billion this year for the installation of some 30 kilometers (km) of sewer lines in Las Pinas.
In an e-mailed statement on Wednesday, Maynilad said this forms part of its planned 80-km sewerage system project for the city. It is targeted for implementation in the last quarter of the year and completion in 2021.
Once complete, the company said the sewerage system will enable the catchment of wastewater generated by some 600,000 customers in 20 barangays in the city, and convey it to the Las Piñas Water Reclamation Facility for proper treatment.
The Las Piñas Water Reclamation Facility started construction in March 2019 and is also targeted for completion by 2021. It will be Maynilad’s largest sewage treatment plant in terms of capacity, treating about 88 million liters of wastewater per day.
“We are determined to do our part in ensuring the proper treatment and disposal of wastewater in our concession area,” Maynilad president and chief executive officer Ramoncito Fernandez said.
“Our commitment is such that we have allotted the largest portion of this year’s capital expenditure budget to wastewater management for programs aimed to protect the health and sanitation of our customers and the environment,” he added.
Maynilad is also laying sewer lines in Valenzuela, Cavite City and Barangays Cupang and Tunasan in Muntinlupa City.
From only two wastewater treatment facilities before re-privatization in 2007, Maynilad has already built 20 more, enabling it to treat over 600 million liters of wastewater per day.
