CPP-NPA blocked in Bohol

- By Daniel yap

TAGBILARAN CITY — The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol passed a resolution on Tuesday declaring the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) as persona non grata in the province.

The resolution was passed en masse based on the recommendation of the Committee on Peace and Order and Public Safety chaired by Board Member Ricky Masamayor.

Masamayor presented his committee’s report to the plenary prior to the passage of the resolution.

Aside from declaring the group persona non grata, the provincial board of Bohol blasted the terroristic activities of the CPP-NPA.

Bohol has made the declaration despite the nearly zero activities of the communist rebels in the island compared to neighboring Negros Oriental where series of killings recently were blamed to the CPP-NPA.

Earlier, acting director of the Bohol provincial Police Office Col. Jonathan Cabal urged the provincial leaders to conduct more outreach programs in order to negate the influence of the communist rebels, especially in the hinterlands

Cabal said one of the effective ways to convince the people against the communists is to make them feel that there is a government working for their benefit and welfare.

Several other provinces have previously declared CPP-NPA persona non grata — clearly indicating that the Duterte administration’s efforts to defeat insurgency problem is on the right track.
