In a vision to promote the arts among Filipinos, conventions are held to bring fan communities closer together. Whether it be for movies, television or comics, die-hard fans would make sure to not miss it. It’s a surefire lure for people who are into them.
Fan conventions are bridges that connect both the artists and their fans while boosting the communities that support their works. These events are also a chance for the fans to talk to people who have the same passions, with no judgments, just all fun.
With the help of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the prelude to one of the biggest movie festivals in the Philippines kicked off last 31 August, the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) Grand Fancon held at the SMX Convention Center.
Filled with interactive booths and an enthusiastic crowd, the PPP3 grand Fancon was a movie enthusiast’s dream come true.
It was a chance see more of what lies behind the featured films that were made for Filipinos by Filipinos.
Like its name, Pista, meaning festival, the PPP3 Grand Fancon transformed the venue into an actual festival.
Event goers participated in booth games that can be seen in the usual town festivals and carnivals. Colorful banderitas lined the venue, with the kainan just on the side. It lived up to its name and the culture of Filipinos.

Weather serenaded the crowd and brought a fan onstage with him. He also went around and visited his booth to take photos.
Kat Galang and Patrick Sugui from I’m Ellenya L. also took the time to promote their film and the rest of PPP3’s line-up. Iñigo Pascual, the leading man of the film, sang his hit song “Dahil Sa’yo.”
Leads of Open, Arci Muñoz and JC Santos, threw pick-up lines back and forth with lucky fans who got picked from the crowd. Enchong Dee from Circa dedicated a song to the audience, filling the whole venue with his singing prowess.
One of the highlights of the event was the performance of the band Ben & Ben, with real-life couple Khalil Ramos and Gabbi Garcia star of the film LSS.
The cast of The Panti Sisters, Paolo Ballesteros, Christian Bables and Martin del Rosario, made the audience laugh their heads off onstage with their wit, humor and games.
Along with the movies in the PPP, the FDCP tapped filmmakers from the different parts of the Philippines to showcase 10 short films that will be shown before the main films for the PPP.
Stars and fans left the venue with satisfaction and looking forward to seeing their idols onscreen.

Made by talented youth, these shows will have depth and meaning as they tackle real-life issues.
The 10 finalists for the Sine Kabataan 2019 are Tinay, Toto Tawag ka ng Ate mo, Baon, Atchoy, Kalakalaro, Kanlungan, Taym Pers Pers Taym, Pingu Pwede Na?, Chok and Magna.
