NASHS assures better future for aspiring athletes
Sen. Lawrence Christopher “Bong” Go on Wednesday defended Senate Bill 397 creating the National Academy of Sports for High School (NASHS), saying he hopes to ensure a better future for young aspiring Filipino athletes who compete in international and local competitions.
During the Senate hearing of the Committee on basic education, Go said it is only fitting that “our people be rewarded with programs
that would ensure the continued growth of our athletes.”
“I filed this bill with the hopes of ensuring a better future for our young aspiring athletes. I had dreamt of a future where our young athletes are driven to succeed both in life and academics through a passion fueled by their love for sports,” he said.
The NASHS, according to him is an idea that hopes to provide--through scholarship grants--a secondary course with special emphasis on developing the athletic skills of students, by including subjects focused on physical education and sports development.
In the end, Go said, we hope to “educate students — who have shown their early potential to excel in sports--for a sports-related career, even while undergoing quality secondary education.” He quoted President Duterte as saying sports is an effective avenue to instill among the youth essential characteristics.
“By integrating secondary education with a secondary program focused on sports, we not only keep our youth away from the evils of dangerous drugs and criminality, we also create a better future for them, whether it be in the field of sports or other important fields,” he said.
