Interpol help in retrieving convicts possible
We have what we call a red notice through the Interpol, coordination with other countries especially those who are members of the Interpol
Philippine National Police Chief, Police General Oscar Albayalde on Friday said they are ready to seek the assistance of the International Criminal Police Organization or INTERPOL in case some of the convicts who were released by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) through the anomalous implementation of the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) are no longer in the country.
In an radio interview, Albayalde said as far as he knows, convicts who committed heinous crimes such as those who took part in the Chiong murder case on 16 July 1997 in Cebu, in which sisters Marijoy and Jacqueline Chiong allegedly were kidnapped, raped, and murdered, are still here in the country.
“So far we have not received any reports of any who managed to leave but we are not discounting that possibility that some were able to leave especially the foreign nationals, “Albayalde said.
“We have what we call a red notice through the INTERPOL, coordination with other countries especially those who are members of the INTERPOL,” he added.
Albayalde, at the same time, said through the Interpol, they can re-arrest the convicts even if they are hiding or have sought refuge in a country which has no extradition treaty with the Philippines.
“Yes, it is possible. Just like with them who has warrants they ask for our assistance and we provide them with the necessary details and the nationals whom they issued warrants are arrested here in our country” Albayalde said.
