QC stages relentless drive against dengue
Today’s campaign is still part of our multi-pronged efforts against dengue
A relentless drive against dengue was ordered by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte despite the four percent drop in the number of reported cases this year.
Belmonte said the city is vigilantly employing a variety of methods to combat dengue. In line with this, residents were enjoined to participate in the program and to continue the 5S program against dengue of the Department of Health (DoH).
Since last month, the city has been rolling out a variety of measures to counter the dengue epidemic, such as clean-up drives and the distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets and insect repellent lotions.
The mayor also issued a memorandum mandating public schools to encourage students to wear longsleeved shirts and long pants.
The number of dengue cases in Quezon City totaled 4,542 from January to 24 August, which is four percent lower compared to the 4,723 cases recorded during the same period last year.
Belmonte on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines for the staging of “Operation Denggoaway — Mag Amok Laban sa Lamok” in Payatas C Elementary School.
“Today’s campaign is still part of our multi-pronged efforts against dengue. We are aware that damp and dark corners of school restrooms and underneath the sink of hand-wash areas are breeding sites of mosquitoes, and we saw the need to address that to protect our schoolchildren,” Belmonte said.
Through the partnership, Boysen Philippines provided the city with 100 gallons of Boysen Bug Off anti-insect paint that will be used to paint school entrances, restrooms, and hand-wash areas of public schools and daycare centers.
