Four battle-wounded soldiers were promoted one rank higher yesterday in recognition of their bravery after sustaining severe injuries during operations early this year.

No less than Philippine Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto donned the rank to the battle wounded soldiers at the Army General Hospital (AGH) in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

According to the Philippine Army, three of the soldiers, namely

Staff Sgt.

Joseph R.

Saguid,

35,

Sgt. Mac Alene D. Quezada, 32, and Cpl. Ronald K. Allutang Jr., 22, who lost one of their legs, are currently receiving physical therapy and are being monitored in preparation for receiving their highend prosthesis provided by the Armed Forces of the Philippines. On the other hand, Cpl. Muqtadir P. Sampulna, 27, was paralyzed when an enemy’ bullet hit his spinal cord. Sampulna is also undergoing treatment in the hope of regaining movement to his lower body.

Col. Raul F. Nufuar, the AGH commanding officer, said beside physical rehabilitation, the soldiers were also given

counseling sessions to help them overcome their traumatic experience.

The soldiers have expressed their desire to continue their service in the Army despite of their experiences.

“It is part of our oath as soldiers to serve our country,” Quezada said, who wishes to go back to the battlefield once he receives his

prosthesis and training.

Army spokesman Lt. Col. Ramon P. Zagala said the lives of soldiers are always at risk. This is why the command wants to give importance to the bravery of these men not just by providing them medical assistance.

“These ranks serve as a recognition to their sacrifices in protecting the people and securing the land,” Zagala said.
