UST tops 2019 physician licensure exam

A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) topped the September 2019 Physician Licensure Exam, the Profession­al Regulation Commission announced.

Federico Adriano Peralta IV emerged as the top-notcher among 4,006 successful examinees, with a 90.92 percent passing rate.

Ray Zanoria Perez II of Cebu Institute of Medicine followed with 90.33 percent, Rowel Calvin Razon of Angeles University Foundation ranked third with 90.25 percent while three students — Judea Galang Gonzales of Angeles University Foundation, Vien Christian Lansangan of Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation and Joseph Alexander Dela Cruz Pagio of University of the Philippine­sManila shared the fourth spot with 89.75 percent. Another Thomasian, Eugene Richard Tan Yap landed in fifth with 89.50 percent.

The Ateneo de Manila University School of Medicine and Public Health-Pasig, Cebu Institute of Medicine and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila are this year’s top performing schools with 100 percent passing rate.

UST, meanwhile, landed in second place, but produced the most numbers of passers with 430 new Thomasian doctors.

The university administra­tion congratula­ted the passers on a Facebook post.

“What an honor, batch 2018, that you let our legacy live on. Here’s to another victory, another triumph of many more to come!” the UST Medicine Student Council posted on Facebook. “Congratula­tions, doctors! We are looking forward to all the great things you will be living out.”

Bocaue Mayor Joni Villanueva also lauded Peralta, who hails from the Bulacan town.

“Amid the rainy weather, we received the news that a Bocaueño was Number 1 in the 2019 physician licensure examinatio­n! Congratula­tions, Dr. Federico Adriano Peralta IV! Bocaue is very proud of you!” Villanueva wrote.

The national passing rate rose to 84.96 percent or 4,006 out of 4,715 examinees this year, in contrast with the 81.84 percent rate, or 3,717 out of 4,542 examinees in 2018.

Six out of 14 examinees also passed the physician qualifying assessment-foreign medical profession­als licensure examinatio­n.

The licensure exam took place in several cities in the country, including Manila, Baguio, Cebu and Davao last September 2018.
