All for the money

- Paco T. Santos Sta. Ana, Manila

Dear Editors,

Reading your headline about “ninja cops” recycling seized illegal drugs to make money is so disturbing, if not scary, as this is happening amid the all-out war being waged by the Duterte administration against the menace.

This only indicated that these scalawags in the Philippine National Police (PNP) have become so brazen that they ignore the President’s warning to kill all those who are engaged in illegal drugs for destroying the country.

So bold, these scoundrels in uniform even act as “intelligence operatives” of a “drug queen” as bared by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to save her from being collared.

No wonder that every day we hear or read in the news about drug peddlers with huge amounts of shabu either being killed or captured — three years after President Duterte declared his war against illegal drugs.

The PNP and PDEA have been claiming that most, if not all, major shabu laboratories in the country have already been dismantled following the launch of the war against drugs.

But with these “ninja cops” lurking, dismantling shabu labs will not rid the streets of illegal drugs as they will continue to recycle and sell confiscated drugs.

While other good cops are willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice to serve and protect, there are a few of them who remain with the dark side — fewer in number but enough to drag the entire PNP to the quagmire.

They said increasing the salary of PNP personnel should discourage cops from engaging in illegal activities — clearly not in the case of these “ninja cops” who want more and, worse, are using their uniforms.

I think of no other motivation for these evil cops going into drugs but for money. All for the money!

Thank you very much!
