Pampanga holds lechon fest amid ASF scare
Meat vendors from all over San Fernando took part in the boodle fight, most of whom also prepared the various meat dishes
SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga — To show that pork from this province is safe to eat, the cities of San Fernando and Angeles held a Lechon
Festival and boodle fight on Friday.
Both the boodle fight and the Lechon
Festival highlighted the pork products produced by the province, amid the growing concern of the African swine fever (ASF) hitting areas in the nearby province of Bulacan and Rizal.
San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago spearheaded the boodle fight themed “Karne sa City of San Fernando sa ASF Ligtas at Garantisado” at the New Public Market in Barangay Del Pilar.
Meat vendors from all over San Fernando took part in the boodle fight, most of whom also prepared the various meat dishes.
“There is no ASF in the city,” Santiago said as he assured that the city government is exerting all-out efforts to ensure the safety of pigs coming from commercial farms and backyards through the support of the Department of Agriculture, Provincial Veterinary Office and Pampanga Swine Producers Association Inc.
In Angeles City, the Lechon Festival
was held at the Pampang Public Market which gathered hundreds of residents in the area.
Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. likewise said that there is no record of ASF in the city, and the local government unit of Angeles City assured that the meat sold in the public market is safe to consume.
“We have shown our constituents that our meat here is safe. In fact, the Pampang Public Market is one of the safest markets in the country,” the mayor said of the market, in which around 300 stalls sell meat products.
