The Garcias of JEG
We want the Cebuanos to feel that they don’t have to go far to experience the premium quality of life they deserve. It’s right at home
Marko Sarmiento, Ayla Gomez and Stefan Garcia are the grandchildren of Jose E. Garcia. They operate the third-generation JEG Development Corporation (JDC).
Years ago, the Garcia family started their business in abaca trading. Since abaca is grown in different islands, the family ventured into the shipping business to facilitate the transport of
abaca. The family exports furniture and is also in power generation, distribution and electricity retail in Cebu and Palawan, being major shareholders of Vivant Corporation, a listed company with the Philippine Stock Exchange.
Vivant is in diesel-fueled, hydroelectric and geothermal power generation.
In 2004, JDC ventured into real estate development. It started with Blue Gardens (residential and strip commercial); in 2005, One Acacia Place (commercial); in 2007, The Gallery (shopping center); in 2013, the Tomodachi Premium Residences (townhouses).
In 2017, One Acacia was closed to give way to JDC building, an office and retail center and its first high-rise project, JEG Tower @ One Acacia.
JEG Tower @ One Acacia is a 22-story building, the first high-rise development of JDC. It is one of the first buildings in the Cebu Business Park to be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) pre-certified.
Initially given a Silver certification, the company is working for a Gold certification. Building materials used include recycled materials (cement and steel). For recycling water and collecting rain water, it uses VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow or ductless system) air conditioners which could give more or less 50 percent energy savings, and DOAS (Destination Oriented Allocation System) elevators.
The structure is designed to withstand a Magnitude 8 earthquake with foundation piles as deep as 30 meters. JDC is now working on its PEZA accreditation.
“We are a young and dynamic player in Cebu’s real estate industry, and we’re making our contribution by having a long-term view in developing livable and sustainable communities,” explained CEO Marko Sarmiento.
“Our work at JDC reflects our pride as Cebuanos while we are building with the Cebuanos in mind,” Ayla Gomez, brand manager of JDC, said.
“Adapting environment-friendly practices and technologies in property development is a long-term strategy for JDC. We believe that starting with the JEG Tower @ One Acacia, we can reduce operating costs through efficient resource management. It would also result in increased worker productivity and an overall positive impact on the health and well-being of our prospective occupants,” Stefan Garcia, estate manager and business development manager, shared.
JEG Tower @ One Acacia is located within a bustling district along Archbishop Reyes Avenue. It is within walking distance to Ayala Center, about 500 meters away. About the same distance are hotels like the Mandarin Plaza and Seda Ayala Center. And less than three kilometers away is the Cebu Country Club with a golf course.
Units along the periphery of the building facing northeast and southwest, or along Acacia Street, will get a good view of the sea, the Tañon Strait, and the mountains northeast or southwest of the area depending on which side of the building one is looking.
Units along the periphery facing southeast, or along Archbishop Reyes Avenue, will have a full view of Tañon Strait, and units facing northwest will see mountain ranges. Of course, all units will see the whole of Metro Cebu. And there will be a garden rooftop.
