LEXUS updates bestselling RX
The new RX is a testament to Lexus’ ongoing commitment to maintain its status as a pioneer of the luxury SUV segment
Lexus recently unveiled the new 2020 RX luxury SUV at its home base Lexus Manila in Taguig. This new prodigy reveals evolutionary changes to the brand’s core model, which helped establish the luxury SUV segment when it was first introduced in 1998.
The new RX is a testament to Lexus’ ongoing commitment to maintain its status as a pioneer of the luxury SUV segment. Lexus has been dominating the SUV segment in the Philippines, consistently holding the highest market share since 2015. In fact, Lexus closed the first half of the year at the top, with a share of 28 percent. The RX remains the bestselling model in the brand’s lineup, being not just the most popular SUV, but also the most successful vehicle based on historical sales. As of June this year, the RX has 1,413 thousand units sold since it was first introduced locally in 2009. With the launch of the latest iteration of the RX, Lexus hopes to fortify its leadership in the commercial vehicle segment.
“On behalf of Lexus, I would like to thank everyone for the unwavering support you have displayed towards the brand for the past 10 years. Your continuous patronage for our cars has helped establish Lexus as one of the leading luxury car brands in the country and the preferred luxury SUV in its segment, which has made the RX our most successful Lexus model historically,” Lexus president Raymond Rodriguez said.
The 2020 RX exterior retains a powerful and sporty appearance, while the character line that runs from the front of the vehicle to the rear has been improved, giving the RX’s overall appearance exceptional flow and consistency. The result is an elegant, dynamic exterior that emphasizes Lexus’ new design language.
In terms of the RX’s driving character, it embraces Lexus’ exhilarating performance following the path of LC and LS flagship coupe and sedan, as the engineers scrutinized every part of the vehicle, and made enhancements to the rigidity of the body and suspension system, as well as, adding a new shock absorber and brake control system. The result is a vehicle with an excellent handling feel and precision, allowing users to accurately trace their desired driving lines.
Under its hood live the same gasoline or gasoline-electric hybrid powertrains as last year: a 295-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 in the RX 350 and a 308-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 in the RX 450h.
“Since 1998, we have sold over 2.94 million units of the Lexus RX. In fact, the RX is our bestselling vehicle worldwide, followed by the ES and IS. Making it a critically important core model for the brand. And significantly this new generation RX will be sold in over 90 countries, and will now be introduced to the Philippines,” Mr. Takeaki Kato — RX chief engineer, Lexus International, shared.
“The popularity of the RX has been built on its sleek design while still providing generous cabin and luggage space. With the new RX, our positioning statement is “Progressive Sophistication.” We focused on enhancing the strength of the current generation and adding a more sophisticated image,” he added.
The prices for the new Lexus: RX350 — P4,278,000; RX350 L — P4,758,000; RX 350 F Sport P4,838,000; and RX 450H — P5,078,000.
