Houses turned over to ‘Yolanda’ victims

CARIGARA, Leyte — After almost six years of waiting, residents whose houses were totally damaged by typhoon “Yolanda” finally received their permanent houses recently.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles led the handling of ceremonial key to a beneficiar­y family in representi­ng the formal turnover of the houses to recipients at Ecoville 2 in this municipali­ty.

The houses were constructe­d under the “Yolanda” Permanent Housing Program through the National Housing Authority (NHA) wherein each of the 640 housing units has an area of 40 square meters.

Nogralesal­sosignedme­morandum of agreements including deed of donation and acceptance with mayors and representa­tives of six local government units (LGU) for similar shelter projects in respective towns.

Present in the signing ceremonies were Mayor Eduardo Ong of Carigara and the signatory mayors or representa­tives from the LGU of Baybay City and the towns of Cabucgayan, Biliran, Naval and Almeria, all in Biliran province, while signing on behalf of the NHA is Marilyn Lauzon, district manager of NHA-Region 8.
