The Philippines closed its campaign in the first leg of the Asean Grand Prix women’s volleyball tournament on a high note as it dominated Vietnam, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-12, Sunday at the Terminal 21 Mall in Nakhon Ratchasima in Thailand.

Mylene Paat sizzled while Kalei Mau and Frances Molina provided the offensive muscles needed to dominate the Vietnamese, who are perennial medalists in the Southeast Asian Games.

Paat, a member of the team that campaigned in the 18th Asian Games last year, fired 14 kills, four blocks and four aces for 22 points while Mau and Molina chipped in 16 and 14 markers, respectively, for the Filipinas, who will fly back to Manila on Monday oozing with momentum.

Meanwhile, V.Premier League of Japan campaigner Tran Thi Tranh Thuy registered 25 points while Dang Thi Kim Tranh added 15 markers for Vietnam, which copped the bronze medal in the previous SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur.

Prior to this win, the Nationals dropped a straight set decision to Indonesia followed by a four-set meltdown to reigning SEA Games champion Thailand.
