One more train for LRT-2?
Following the outrage stirred by the mass transportation problem in the country, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) yesterday announced that it is looking into the possibility of deploying an additional train for the ongoing partial operation of the LRT-2 as soon as it irons out some technical activities.
“We are looking into the suggestion to add trains that will run within the operational area between Cubao to Recto,” LRTA spokesman Hernando Cabrera said in a radio interview. “Once we perfect the procedure in terms of operating the trains and its maintenance, we will try an early morning operation, maybe five in the morning.”
The LRT-2 used five trains on the third day of its partial operations, and the regular train schedule that usually starts at 4:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. has also been cut short since the fire that affected the system’s power rectifiers.
Current operation starts at 6 a.m. while the last trip from Cubao is at 8:30 p.m. The last train from Recto, meanwhile, leaves at 9 p.m.
Cabrera said the management is still awaiting the official result of the investigation from the Bureau of Fire Protection, but mentioned that a lightning strike could be a possible cause of the fire that damaged its rectifiers last week.
