It will serve as a motivation for me to strive better, train harder

LAUREL, Batangas — Ariana Dormitorio came up with a shock exit following an unfortunate accident in the women’s mountain bike cross country event of the 30th Southeast Asian Games Sunday here.

The comely Filipina rider was way ahead in the first four laps, but suffered a crash and mechanical trouble down the stretch that prompted her to lose the precious gold.

“By the time that I was about to approach the fifth lap, I crashed on the upper part of the trail,” said Dormitorio, who is heavily expected to rule the event after falling short in the 18th Asian Games last year in Jakarta. “It kind of hit my head. I suddenly felt dizzy, and I kinda got some cramps because of the crash. That’s why I was no longer able to continue,” added the Iloilo-born Filipina cyclist, who registered DNF.

“It (route) was a switch back, there is a sudden left turn. I committed an error. I actually can’t explain what happened because everything happened so fast. But it’s part of the game. At the end of the day you cannot really tell if you can still win it or not.”

Dormitorio cited that experiencing several falls in the early part of the competition also mounted her injuries, which became factor for her stoppage in the middle of the race.

“After my first crash, I crashed again, maybe three to four times. If I still continued, I would be crashing anywhere else,” she added. Still, despite that forgettable SEA Games experience, Dormitorio vowed to train hard and bounce back in future international tournaments.
