Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has been designated as honorary fire chief by TXTFire Philippines during its grand meeting last Saturday.

During the occasion, he was given a personalized fireman’s hat in recognition of his new position.

Domagoso was the guest of honor at the TXTFire Grand Eyeball held at the Chiang Kai Shek College Auditorium in Tondo, Manila

In his message, the mayor extolled fire fighters for their selfless dedication to duty without expecting anything in return.

He commended the members of TXTFire Philippines for their volunteerism. The group, headed by its founder and president Gerie Chua, is composed of 3,000 volunteer firefighters and 500,000 members nationwide.

During the event, which was also graced by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chief Arnel Angeles, he thanked the group for readily aiding the city government in whatever way it can.

He cited the help provided by firefighters whenever the city needs to conduct activities that require their expertise and equipment.

He also lauded those present for risking their lives just to help strangers who are in need.

“Sometimes, you don’t even think about your families because of public service, which is a tough task,” Domagoso said.

With the end of the year just a few weeks away, he hopes that they will not tire in helping city officials during times of need.

During the meeting, Chua’s son, Gerik, handed over the hat and a plaque of recognition.

Chua, for his part, said his group fully supports the mayor and his programs, citing the many positive reforms he had introduced just a few months after assuming office.

“Our group will be here to help in whatever way possible, knowing and trusting that we have a mayor who means well and is bent on bringing Manila back on its feet,” Chua said.
