An isolated case.

Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo on Tuesday assured the country’s peace and order are stable despite the reported kidnapping of a woman in Makati on Monday night.

Panelo allayed the public’s fears as the Makati Police reported the abduction of a Chinese woman along the Paseo de Roxas in Legaspi Village.

“I think that particular incident is isolated. I have not heard of any kidnapping case reported whether by the media or by word of mouth — except for that video that went viral,” Panelo said during a press briefing in Malacañang.

Panelo, however, advised the public to be on the lookout and be conscious about the events around them,

“If they see any suspicious men or women lurking around, they should report them immediately to the police authorities,” Panelo said.

He also maintained that it remains safe to go out even at night despite the incident.

“Oh definitely. You must remember that the index on crimes has decreased considerably. In fact, that’s why in Mindanao, there is no need for the extension of martial law,” Panelo said.

A video of the abduction posted online early Tuesday prompted the investigation while persons of interests, as indicated on vehicle sale documents dropped at the scene of kidnapping, are to be invited for questioning.

In the video, the victim was heard screaming as she was forced inside a van by her alleged abductors. The van sped away when a bystander approached it.

A witness told the Police that the woman struggled against her abductors who were all wearing masks.

The van’s plate number was traced to a different vehicle, according to Makati City police chief Rogelio Simon.

Makati Mayor Abby Binay also ordered greater police visibility to ensure the safety and protection of Makati residents, visitors and workers, including foreign nationals who conduct business in the city.
