The gradual easing of restrictions, Co said, can help a lot in relaxing the minds of city residents

BAGUIO CITY — Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) chief Police Col. Allen Rae Co revealed that from the start of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) last 16 March, they have already recorded at least eight suspected suicide incidents.

Co said that all of the incidents were related to the restrictions and stress among others because of the war against the Corona virus disease (COVID-19). He cited a 64-year old alleged suicide male victim who was depressed while waiting for the result of his test for COVID 19 and took his life. The result came out negative after all.

Co said they are still investigating the case of the 8th case involving a seven-year old boy which had inflicted wounds and bruises on the body. He said they suspect the boy was strangled to death by his aunt.

The aunt was allegedly temperamental and always beating the child. He said this may also be attributed to the pressure the restrictions caused. Such cases happening at residences while the people are on quarantine are alarming, according to Co.

The gradual easing of restrictions, Co said, can help a lot in relaxing the minds of city residents. He hopes that with the measures, the stress to the people will be lessened and the depressions to many will stop.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said that they are seeking the help of a group who offered their services in aiding people who are stressed and suffering from depression. He said the group is composed of professionals who suffered the same but recovered and now, they want to give back. He asked those who want to be assisted to call them up for counselling.
