4 missing fishermen return home
The four left Barangay Tubaon, Silago for fishing on morning of 9 June aboard a pump boat named ‘Lucero-Hinampas Family’
TACLOBAN CITY — Four fishermen from Silago, Southern Leyte who were reported missing at sea returned home Thursday noon, two days after authorities started a search for them.
The four fishermen were identified as Nestor Lopez, 55 years old and pump boat owner; Dino Angcoy, 39; Danny Manto, 49 and pump boat operator; and Ernesto Lucero, 60, all residents of Silago town.
The four left Barangay Tubaon, Silago for fishing on morning of 9 June aboard a pump boat named “Lucero-Hinampas Family” despite prevailing bad weather all over Eastern Visayas at that time.
When the four failed to come home on the same day, the worried families alerted the authorities and Silago Municipal Police Station declared the fishermen as missing persons prompting search for them.
Upon their return, the fishermen said they experienced engine issues while fishing and began to drift away heading towards Dinagat Islands drifting to the shores of Barangay Arellano, Municipality of Libju (Albor), Province of Dinagat Islands on 10 June 2020 early in the morning.
On the same day, they attempted to return home hours after they fixed the boat engine amid bad weather due to an approaching low pressure in Eastern Samar. While at sea, the operator said they had a hard time in traversing the right path towards Silago.
On 11 June, they reached the coastal waters of the Municipality of Hinunangan, Southern Leyte where they stopped before proceeding back home to Silago.
The fishermen appeared unharmed and in good health.
