Bodyguards’ bonanza

A bodyguard is supposed to protect from harm the person he is guarding. But sometimes, things don’t turn out as they should. Worse than failing to live up to expectations is when a bodyguard is the one who gets harmed in the course of doing his duty.

If reports are true, such awkwardness happened to the security aide of a singer-actress in February when he was punched by her fiancé during a wedding gone awry. He earned the fiancé’s ire for allegedly tipping off the latter’s secret marriage to the mother of the singer-actress, who was against the relationship.

The tip-off that led to the mother gatecrashing the wedding of the singer-actress and her fiancé to berate them in turn angered the groom as the intrusion spoiled the happy atmosphere. The bodyguard threatened to sue the couple for the slight physical injury he suffered and demanded P1.5 million in damages, but later settled it out of court for P200,000.

Imam also provides Moti and Rani with a staff of two who take care of them like nannies. His love for the two grew even more after they protected him from two gun-toting burglars who broke into the house last year while he was sleeping.

Imam was awakened by a noise and saw Moti and Rani chasing away the two intruders outside. He believes that if not for his two very big “bodyguards,” he would have been killed by the gunmen.

In gratitude for Moti and Rani’s heroics, Imam changed his will to bequeath 2.5 hectares to them. Imam’s wife and children were not happy for the smaller amount of land they would inherit from him.

When Imam learned of their complaint, quoted him as saying, “Human greed is endless; even if you give them the whole world it’s not enough.”

He explained to his family that he loves Moti and Rani and his relationship with them is life-long.

“I am alive due to my elephants who had worked like bodyguards to me,” said Imam, according to
