BAGUIO CITY — Only Mountain Province remains the only province in the Cordillera Region which has zero positive cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after Kalinga, Apayao and Ifugao registered positive cases of the virus to halt their virus-free status.

The Mountain Province provincial government declared it is now on strict guard to maintain its defense against the virus as most of the other provinces’ new cases are coming from returning overseas Filipino workers (OFW) and stranded individuals.

Gov. Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr. also appealed to his constituents for their cooperation especially in the strict observance of health protocols.

As of 12 June 2020, there are now seven cases in the province of Apayao, six in Abra, two each in Kalinga and Apayao after being virus-free for months since the pandemic started.

Benguet has now 21 cases of the deadly virus, most of whom have travel history from the outside the province and especially coming from the National Capital Region. Majority of the infected patients are returning OFW who were quarantined and underwent tests prior to going home to the province.

Meanwhile, Baguio City recorded 37 confirmed cases with four of them being active cases. Two among the four newly confirmed cases also point to not having traveled recently.

Intensive contact tracing as some of the patients have actually no travel experience since the community quarantines.
