Editor’s note
June is the month when we celebrate our fathers. Although it usually just falls on the third Sunday of this month, some people prefer to give themselves the luxury of the whole 30 days. Being a father myself, I’d say aye to giving us this kind of privilege. Come on.
Kidding aside. Father’s Day is a celebration of paternal bonds and the influence fathers have in society which started in the
United States in the early 20th century to complement Mother’s Day which is celebrated the month before.
Since the gist of the theme of Daily Tribune’s 20th anniversary this year is about “heroes” brought about by the challenging situation we all are currently experiencing these days, I decided to immortalize in these pages — fathers — our very own childhood heroes.
Here, you get to read features, such as: Automobile Association Philippines’ motorsports manager Ivan Isada on following in the footsteps of his father, the legendary rally driving champion Vip Isada, Taekondo icon Japoy Lizardo on his ruminations as a champion athlete, his father’s big influence, his ultimate dream as a coach and on being a strong provider and protector of his own family — being a father himself now to two wonderful boys.
Also, we get to hear stories from Geely’s marketing manager, Ryan Isana on how his father’s sacrifices invigorated his passion for cars. Another is a single parent and how she was able to provide the roles as both father and mother to her children during this time of the pandemic. Other than this, another mother shares her learnings from her father — from being a basketball aficionado all the way to teaching her on how to drive her first car. We also have features on
Daily Tribune’s staffers on their journeys to work during the lockdown since being part of today’s lineup of essential workers alone is somehow already considered heroic.
There are more in store in this section, from test driving a stunning vehicle to witty titles, down to teasing your own taste buds.
And before I end this simple message, I would like to say that this pandemic has taught us valuable lessons that will either make you or break you. Things that will you make you realize the importance of your family and loved ones, and on creating a positive relationship with people around you.
To the person who molded me to be who I am today, thank you. Your love and sacrifices as a father will forever be cherished.
Happy Father’s Month!
