My warmest greetings to The Daily Tribune on its 20th Anniversary!

The Daily Tribune’s slogan, “Without Fear. Without Favor,” has particularly resonated with me because this is also how I aim to live my life in public service. Even as a private citizen and former columnist at the Daily Tribune, I have always subscribed to this idea and this was evident in the Op-Ed commentaries I wrote.

Thus, on its 20th Anniversary, I would like to recognize the role of the Daily Tribune and a free press in nation-building. It was Barack Obama who said, “We have to uphold a free press and freedom of speech — because in the end, lies and misinformation are no match for the truth.”

As the Daily Tribune continues it’s mission as a national newspaper to deliver only the essentials — fair and factual, current news, and a plethora of printed views — I wholeheartedly support its continued fulfillment of the highest standards of journalism. I hope The Daily Tribune continues to instill the highest standards of integrity, morality, and fairness among its ranks.

As the Philippine economy develops, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas will continue its mandates of preserving price and financial stability conducive to the balanced and sustainable economic growth. We look forward to working with the Daily

Tribune as we endeavor to bring central banking closer to the people.
