Cops in Jolo shooting face NBI
Right now, they are at the PNCO Clubhouse and being closely watched
The nine policemen tagged in the shooting incident that left four military intelligence officers in Jolo, Sulu dead last month is scheduled to appear before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) within this week, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief PGen. Archie Gamboa disclosed on Monday.
We have been assured that the Armed Forces commanders, together with the PNP, that we will just wait for the NBI to come up with results of the investigation and then for the meantime we continue to work together.
According to Gamboa, they are just awaiting the issuance of subpoenas for the officers — PSMSgt. Abdelzhimar Padjiri, PMSgt. Hanie Baddiri, PSSgt. Iskandar Susulan, PSSgt. Ernisar Sappal, PCpl Sulki M. Andaki and Pat Moh Nur Pasani, all members of the Jolo MPS Alert Team and PSSgt. Almudzrin Hadjaruddin, Pat. Alkajal Mandangan and Pat. Rajiv Putalan of the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) of Sulu — before they are turned over to the NBI’s custody.
The nine accused policemen arrived in Manila last 7 July, personally accompanied by Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) director PBGen. Manuel Abu, to ensure their availability while the NBI is conducting its investigation regarding the incident.
“Right now, they are at the PNCO Clubhouse and being closely watched,” Gamboa told reporters during his press briefing in Camp Crame.
Relatedly, Gamboa bared that the board of inquiry created by the PNP and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) had wrapped up its assessment of the incident in Jolo and the escalating tension between the police and military in Sulu province already diffused.
“We have been assured that the Armed Forces commanders, together with the PNP, that we will just wait for the NBI to come up with results of the investigation and then for the meantime we continue to work together,” stated the PNP Chief.
The board of inquiry, Gamboa added, will also reevaluate operational procedures between the two organizations to hopefully iron kinks and prevent another unfortunate event such as the 29 June shooting incident from happening.
The body, he said, is expected to release its report anytime this week.
“Whatever the result of the inquiry is, we will adjust our operational policy accordingly,” Gamboa noted.
