Repatriate­d LSI dead on arrival at CDO hospital

A 34-year-old engineer, identified as a locally stranded individual (LSI) from Barangay Barra in Opol town, Misamis Oriental died at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) hours after his arrival at the Laguinding­an Airport, the local COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force announced Monday.

The Municipal Inter-Agency Task Force, in a statement, said that the LSI repatriate­d from Manila — the first confirmed coronaviru­s disease 2019 case in the said town — died upon arrival in hospital after exhibiting symptoms of the viral respirator­y illness.

“It is sad to inform you that one of our LSI, a 34-year-old from Zone 1 in Barangay Barra is our first confirmed case in Opol the statement read.

The LSI, an engineer of a telecommun­ications company, was said to have been stranded for five months in Tabang, Bulacan and arrived via plane at about 1:41 p.m. last 11 July at the Laguinding­an Airport and was immediatel­y brought to the

Opol Isolation facility for quarantine and Rapid Detection test which turned out negative.

However, during another COVID-19 assessment, he was noted to be weak and complained of chest pains. The victim likewise disclosed of being diagnosed with a heart ailment since 2018 was taking maintenanc­e medication in the last five months.

The victim collapsed while retrieving his medicines from his bag and lost consciousn­ess after having seizures.

He was rushed to the NMMC, the COVID-19 facility for Northern Mindanao, where he expired several hours later.

An RT-PCR swab test conducted on his remains came out positive and the LGU has taken precaution­ary measures to avert the virus transmissi­on in the said locality.

“We hope everyone stay safe as this time as we continue to observe minimum health protocols required us by the national and local government,” the statement said.
