Marinduque to reopen airports
Marinduque is one of the most beautiful cities in the Philippines that were severely affected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and it is known for its scenic tourist spots such as Poctoy White Beach, Mount Malindig, and Bagumbungan Cave among others. Sadly, the city has halted due to the rise of the pandemic. Upon the last update, Marinduque is placed under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) where establishments are allowed to operate 50 percent of its capacity for as long as it is maintaining proper safety protocols as required by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF)
With Metro Manila placed under general community quarantine (GCQ), travelling from one province to another has become easier. Thus, this is a good chance for local residents of Marinduque to come back home to their families.
In line with this, Marinduque Governor Presby Velasco Jr. coordinated with Cebu Pacific Air Inc., Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the province’s respective Municipal Health Offices and Philippine National Police (PNP) to open the airport of Marinduque for homecoming passengers.
The meeting focused on relaunching Cebu Pacific flights to and from Marinduque.
“We want to make sure that everything will be implemented in an orderly manner once we reopened flights for people coming back home. That’s why we have to coordinate with the whole task force to guarantee its smooth execution,” Velasco said.
During the meeting, representatives from CebuPac, CAAP, MHO, PNP and the city government of Marinduque have arranged a conclusive agreement as follows — each flier is required to provide documentary requirements as prescribed by the IATF.
It also noted that each passenger will have to undergo Rapid Testing on their own account upon arrival and a 14-day Quarantine Policy is required for all fliers.
The former Associate Justice also stressed out that it is his office’s priority to make sure that, while they are welcoming back his fellow Marinduqueños, they are maintaining the safety of the people currently living in the city.
