Marcial joins MP Promotions
I chose MP Promotions because of its 100 percent support to my goal of competing for the country
As expected, Eumir Marcial signed his first professional contract with MP Promotions of Manny Pacquiao.
A three-time gold medalist in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, Marcial reached an agreement with Pacquiao’s outfit, allowing him to join other Filipino world champions like Jerwin Ancajas, John Riel Casimero and Pedro Taduran.
In a statement, Marcial said he chose MP Promotions because it is supportive of his goal of bringing glory to the country by competing in the Tokyo Olympics next year.
He thanked his advisers in Atty. Clint Aranas and Atty. Jeff Manuel David as well as the Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines (ABAP), including president Ricky Vargas, secretary general Ed Picson and coaches Romeo Brin, Pat Gaspi, Boy and Roel Velasco, Elmer Pamisa and Ronald Chavez together with sports psychologist Marcus Manalo and performance analyst Jeff Pagaduan.
Sources said MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons is looking to give Marcial a professional debut in October. But if plan miscarries, he could be part of the undercard of Pacquiao when he climbs the ring either November or December — or as soon as the coronavirus pandemic subsides.
“I chose MP Promotions because of its 100 percent support to my goal of competing for the country in the future editions of SEA Games, Asian Games and even the Olympics,” Marcial said, looking to win the country’s first gold medal in the Olympics.
“It was written in the six-year promotional agreement that they will not hinder me in the event that I will be needed by the national team.”
Vargas expressed elation over Marcial’s decision to sign with MP Promotions, saying that the Filipino boxing icon would definitely take good care of him.
