Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized 20 kilograms of suspected shabu estimated to be worth P136 million during a buy-bust operation in Quezon City yesterday afternoon. The haul is one of the biggest in the war on drugs, following a P5.1 billion of shabu taken from a warehouse in Marilao, Bulacan and another P244.8 million from a Parañaque City sting last June. Arrested during the operation were Yao Yuan and Piao Hong, both Chinese nationals, and their Filipino cohort Israel Ambulo.

The PDEA Regional Office-National Capital Region and Special Enforcement Service set up the sting against the suspects at the Quezon City Memorial Circle at 1:52 p.m. The illegal drugs were packed in 20 vacuum-sealed packs of Guanyinwang tea bags.

Apart from the narcotics, also taken from the suspects were a Nissan Cefiro with plate number ZAW 576 and four cellular phones. They will be charged with violation of Sections 5 and 11 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Meanwhile, a joint operation by the Quezon City Police District and Southern Police District yesterday confiscated P1.36 million worth of shabu in Parañaque City.

Arrested was Mack Kadil, alias “Marcos,” 34, who was with two 17-year-old companions during the buy-bust at 12:30 p.m. on 21 July in front of a pizza restaurant along Roxas Boulevard in Barangay Baclaran.

A police buyer bought P1,000 worth of drugs from the suspect, which led to his arrest.

Seized from the suspect were about 200 grams of shabu amounting to P1,360,000 and two cell phones.

Kadil will be charged with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, while the minors were brought to the Social Services Development Department for proper disposition.

The haul is one of the biggest for the war on drugs, following a P5.1 billion haul of shabu taken from a warehouse in Marilao, Bulacan last June.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Archie Gamboa previously stressed there will be no slow down to the government’s anti-drug campaign.

“The PNP continues to be in the frontline of ensuring public safety by going after illegal drugs. There is no let-up in our campaign even as we are facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Gamboa stated.
