Aboitiz revs up Davao water deal
We are ramping up our construction activities while implementing the appropriate health protocols in our offices and project sites
Aboitiz-led Apo Agua Infrastructura Inc. is ramping up the construction of the Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project (DCBWSP) of the Davao City Water District (DCWD) and is targeting to hire over 3,000 additional workers by November this year.
Apo Agua Operations Head Shake Tuason said the development was part of the recovery plan to get the P12-billion project back on track after it was affected by quarantine restrictions.
“We are ramping up our construction activities while implementing the appropriate health protocols in our offices and project sites per government guidelines. As we confront the challenges brought by this pandemic, we are set on delivering this project while keeping our people’s health and safety a priority,” Tuazon said.
Raw water conduit
Tuason disclosed that the additional manpower would help expedite the completion of Part A of the DCBWSP being handled by Apo Agua. It involves the construction of raw water facilities, hydroelectric power plants, water treatment plant, treated water pipelines, and facilities for various off-take points in the city.
To date, Apo Agua has signed in about 1,500 workers for DCBWSP, bringing the total target manpower requirement to 4,500.
Added supply to Davao
The project, which will source water from the Tamugan River and supply at least 300 million liters per day to DCWD, was scheduled to be completed by June 2021.
DCWD spokesman Bernardo Delima Jr. earlier said the bulk water supply will meet demand projections, which takes into consideration the completion of 68 high-rise buildings and 63 residential subdivisions in the city.
Once operational, the project will provide over 300 million liters of safe water per day to more than one million Davaoeños.
