Pampanga agencies ink food security pact

CLARK FREEPORT ZONE — Various government agencies signed a memorandum of agreement that will ensure the food security in the province of Pampanga during the coronaviru­s pandemic.

The Clark Developmen­t Corporatio­n (CDC), the Provincial Government of Pampanga, Provincial Environmen­t and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and Pampanga Police Provincial Office (PPPO) signed the agreement dubbed as the Kaligkasan Food Security Project, which is in line with the national government’s Balik Probinsiya, Bagong Pagasa program that aims to provide enough produce for the province.

The initiative will also promote a clean and healthy environmen­t for all that exemplifie­s eco-tourism, environmen­tal protection and food security.

The project will utilize a 1.5-hectare land to be used as a food garden inside the Mt. Arayat National Park, which is intended as a sustainabl­e source of highlands vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes, okra, eggplant and hot pepper for consumptio­n of the people of Pampanga.

The CDC, for its part, will provide financial support for the preparatio­n of the area, planting and developmen­t of a small water impounding system of the garden as part of its Corporate Social Responsibi­lity program.

The provincial government, PENRO and PPPO will take charge of the land preparatio­n including surveying and mapping, as well as monitoring, maintenanc­e, mobilizati­on and other relevant processes needed for the project.
