Ramirez revamps PSC

-

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William “Butch” Ramirez launched a revamp after one of their employees was caught padding the payroll of national athletes and coaches last week.

In a statement, Ramirez said Atty. Guillermo Iroy was promoted and would now serve as acting executive director while Merlita Ibay would assume her old position as deputy executive director for finance and administrative services.

Another old hand in the agency, Queenie Evangelista would also serve as deputy executive director while leading the coordinating secretariat and support services bureau.

Iroy would also head the fact-finding body that would dig deep into the payroll scam, where an employee, Paul Ignacio, cashed in more than P14 million by including the names of inactive athletes and his account number in the payroll system.

I feel sad, frustrated and hurt, but we all have to be composed.

“As the highest accountable official of the agency, I take responsibility to effect changes, to make sure that there are no gaps in the organization,” said Ramirez, taking the blame for the scam that started in 2015.

“I feel sad, frustrated and hurt, but we all have to be composed.”

Ramirez vowed that more changes would be done in the coming days.

So far, the National Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Justice and the Office of the Solicitor General are already assisting the PSC in pressing charges and recovering the resources taken away by the suspect.
