Quarantine facility opens in Quiapo

Manila city officials yesterday inspected a temporary quarantine facility in Quiapo, Manila.

Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna visited the site at the Manuel Luis Quezon University (MLQU).

It will the 13th facility for COVID-19 positive cases that was set up by the mayor in response to the expected spike in infections in the city.

The MLQU center will be able to accommodat­e around 60 patients who will be found positive by rapid test and will be waiting for their confirmato­ry swab test.

Even before the coronaviru­s became a major health concern in Manila, Domagoso ordered the setting up isolation facilities in anticipati­on of the increase of those afflicted with the coronaviru­s.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony of each facility, the mayor had been praying that the center would not be utilized, an indication that the virus had been defeated.

To date, all city-run hospitals and quarantine facilities have been overwhelme­d by coronaviru­s-positive patients.

Meanwhile, Domagoso and Lacuna led yesterday the unveiling of 34 MNLKonek digital kiosks in the University Belt area.

They were joined by Edsel Paglinawan, Eastern Communicat­ions product innovation head.

The MNLKonek digital kiosks powered by Eastern Communicat­ions offer up to 200mbps of Internet speed and can connect 100 users simultaneo­usly.

It allows the public to make local phone calls, charge their phones, call emergency hotlines and browse the Internet free of charge.

It also has a built-in tablet that users can use to browse for directions, maps and informatio­n.
