Pusher gunned down

One of two suspected drug pushers was gunned down in an encounter with police during a buy-bust operation in Taytay, Rizal early Monday morning.

Police are tracking down the slain suspect’s companion who managed to escape during the encounter.

Taytay police chief P/Maj. Rodel Ban-o identified the slain suspect as Ahmad Iqbal Mama, alias Iqbal.

The operation, conducted in Barangay San Juan at about 2:40 a.m., resulted into an encounter after the suspects noticed they were transactin­g with an undercover operative.

The suspects fired shots at the police but missed, prompting the latter to retaliate.

The suspects immediatel­y fled toward Manila East Road. However, they were chased by the operatives who were just a few meters away from the place of transactio­n. A brief exchange of gunfire ensued when one of the suspects engaged the pursuing operatives.

One of the suspects on board a motorcycle was able to escape and headed toward the direction of Kaytikling, while the other suspect was eventually cornered by operatives at the parking area of the New Taytay Cockpit Arena along Manila East Road in Barangay San Juan.

Mama sustained gunshot wounds on different parts of the body. He was immediatel­y brought to Taytay Emergency Hospital for medical treatment, but was declared dead on arrival.

Recovered from the crime scene were a backpack containing one pack of Guanyinwan­g refined Chinese tea which contained suspected shabu weighing about one kilo with an estimated value of P6.8 million, 669 pieces of fake P1,000 peso bills as boodle money and a real P1,000 real bill marked money amounting to P700,000 as buy-bust money, a caliber 45. compact and undetermin­ed fired cartridges.
