Missing Miss World this year
Safety against COVID-19 is the primary reason for the postponement of the beauty pageant’s 70th edition, Miss World chairman and CEO Julia Morley announced recently
The “beauty with a purpose” and oldest-running international beauty pageant, Miss World, has been postponed. “We have made the decision to delay the 70th Miss World Final. Safety is paramount as we continue the fight against COVID-19. We look forward to welcoming the Miss World family to our very special celebrations next year,” Miss World chairman and CEO Julia Morley made the announcement to all National Licence Holders. Reigning Miss World Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Singh will crown her successor in the latter of 2021.
Miss World 1994 and award-winning Bollywood actress and model Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her daughter Aaradhya have been discharged from Mumbai’s Nanavati hospital on Monday, 27 July, after contracting the coronavirus. On 12 July, 48-year-old Rai and eight-year-old Aaradhya have tested positive for COVID-19 and were hospitalized five days after.
“Thank you all for your continued prayers and good wishes. Indebted forever. Aishwarya and Aaradhya have tested negative and have been discharged from the hospital. They will now be at home,” Rai’s husband Abhishek Bachchan tweeted.
“Everyone at Miss World is happy to hear this announcement, it’s the best news we could have received!” Morley said.
On 11 July, 44-year-old Abhishek and his 77-year-old father Amitabh Bachchan, both Bollywood actors and producers were admitted to the hospital after testing positive for the coronavirus. “My father and I remain in hospital under the care of the medical staff,” Abhishek shared via tweet. Amitabh’s wife, Bollywood actress and politician Jaya Bachchan tested negative.
