Quiambao joins La Salle

- BEA MICALLER

National University (NU) lost another gem after Kevin Quiambao joined De La Salle University in Season 83 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.

Quiambao, a 6-foot-8 slotman for the Bullpups, joined the growing list of players that the school lost in the off-season, raising a lot of questions on its men’s basketball program.

Also leaving NU-Nazareth School were Gilas Pilipinas Youth standouts Carl Tamayo and Gerry Abadiano, who took their talents to University of the Philippines.

Quiambao is a highly-touted banger during his stint in the National Basketball Training Center and was regarded as the third highest high school recruit next to Rhayyan Amsali of San Beda University and Tamayo.

In his final season with the Bullpups, he posted averages of 12.6 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks, making him and Tamayo a formidable one-two punch duo in the juniors division.

At La Salle, he will join a loaded rotation of head coach Derrick Pumaren that features blue chip recruits in brothers Michael and Benjamin Philips, Jonnel Policarpio of Mapua and former Red Lion Evan Nelle as well as mainstays Aljun Melecio, Encho Serrano and Justin Baltazar.
