Las Piñas City offers free rides

Because public transport has been suspended during the MECQ, the city government is offering free rides

The Las Piñas local government has decided to provide free rides as added incentive to frontliners and the city’s residents as it prepared for the strict implementation of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

This is part of the protocols being readied by the LGU in response to the call to strengthen the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because public transport has been suspended during the MECQ, the city government is offering free rides, ensuring minimum health standards are observed, said Las Piñas Vice Mayor April Aguilar-Nery.

She said the free rides were agreed upon after a meeting at City Hall with department heads, city councilors and doctors from the Las Piñas City Health Offices (LPCHO).

The LGU rented seven Tas Trans buses to augment the four Rosa buses the city has been utilizing to provide rides to frontliners.

Tricycles are also being allowed to continue plying their authorized route, except for the stretch of Alabang-Zapote Road.

Only one passenger is allowed to ride each vehicle and health protocols should be observed at the terminals.

Nery clarified the city allowed the use of motorcycles, but back riding is strictly not allowed.

Meanwhile, Col. Rodel Pastor, Las Piñas police chief, said three checkpoints have been set up at Zapote,

Marcos Alvarez and Daang Hari Evia.

Policemen were also deployed to the public market and within the city to make sure health protocols are followed.

Curfew from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. will be strictly observed in the 20 barangays of Las Piñas City.

Although the city government allowed the sale of alcoholic drinks, drinking in public is strictly prohibited. The consumption of alcohol is only allowed inside homes.
