Albert Andrada gives essentials the royal treatment
Andrada designed and developed the locally produced Aerian PREMIUM protective wearable. The form-fitting protective wearable optimized for safety is effortlessly stylish and functional that allows breathing comfortably
He designed Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach’s winning royal blue gown worn during the coronation at The Axis and her homecoming at the SMART Araneta Coliseum. From designing for local celebrities to dressing up Hollywood icons and UAE royals, the warm and compassionate couturier Albert Andrada has come a long way in the Philippine fashion industry since then. Days before unveiling his fashion contribution and collection during the pandemic, the acclaimed designer shared his time with Daily Tribune inspiring Filipino designers and artisans to hold on, to believe and humble themselves during this time. As the Design Council Head of Miss Universe Philippines (MUPh), Andrada revealed for the first time to Daily Tribune his collaboration with chemist Dr. Liu Hongjun, the brainchild of the patented nanosilver filter.
Miss Universe 2011 Valerie Lim was seeking to donate a unique material that can be used for protective wearables and luxe wear to the Philippines developed by Dr. Hongjun. Known as a green scientist, Dr. Hongjun began his first work with nanosilver by purifying contaminated water into safe drinking water for disaster-stricken areas and has published 20 highly-impacted research papers and 31 international patents. The opportunity was enabled through MUPh creative director Jonas Gaffud and the concept of using Hongjun groundbreaking technology through Aerian Nanosilver protective wearables the first of its kind in the Philippines became available online starting on 3 August at www. aerianessentials.com/.
A business model was created as the demand for effective and protective wearables grows. Combining Dr. Hongjun’s innovative material, creative expertise of Andrada and productive Filipino designers and artisans, the Aerian essentials concept came to life that can also be used as scarves, aprons, AC filters and airplane headcovers. Nanosilver is positively charged, whereas viruses and bacteria are negatively charged. Once these microbes come into contact with the nanosilver filter, the interaction instantly destroys them. It helps eliminate 99 percent of air pollutants and pathogens and provides anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-viral disinfecting properties at a nanoscale (<5 nanometers) against the H3N2 virus.
His opulent colors and intricate patterns will be featured in the upcoming LUXEWEAR collection of protective face covers and scarves.
