PFL keeps hopes high

The Philippine Football League (PFL) remains hopeful that its resumption would still push through as soon as the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) has been lifted.

PFL commissioner Coco Torre yesterday said reports that Metro Manila and nearby provinces have been placed under MECQ no longer bothers them as they are already prepared following a very long break that canceled the opening of their fourth season.

Torre said they would remain patient and throw their support behind the national government, which is looking to curb the rising cases of coronavirus in the country.

“We are delayed again, but we are fully cooperating with the government’s directive,” Torre said, adding that he had already reached out to various teams to inform them that they should revert back to virtual training while the MECQ has yet to be lifted.

“We’ve been here before, so we’re just going to do it again. The teams will resort back to their online training.”

“Definitely, we are still hopeful — training resumption remains our objective.”

Torre said they are looking to plot another schedule for their training, which would be held in a bubble setup at the Philippine Football Federation training center in Carmona, Cavite.

“On our part, we will just wait for the next announcement of the government for the next 15 days and we will act accordingly,” he said.

“Ideally, we are looking to push through a season within this year and we will adjust accordingly. Once we start the training, that’s only the time where we can know when the league will start.”
