Global FC fate hangs in limbo
The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) has yet to determine the fate of Global FC following its failure to settle its contractual obligations to its players and team staff.
PFF secretary general Ed Gastanes said they are still waiting for recommendation from the Philippine Football League (PFL) after Global management failed to meet the 10-day deadline for the settlement of unpaid wages and other benefits.
Operated by Mazinyi Management Ltd., Global is in deep trouble after Ghanaian John Cofie, a former member of Manchester United youth squad, aired his complaints after the club failed to pay him his salary for six months.
Then, local graphic designer Jaya Suruda also called out the team for not paying his services.
With that, Global is facing the possibility of having its license revoked, which would effectively bar it from seeing action in the fourth season of the PFL.
Gastanes, however, refused to come up with a statement
“PFL had already conducted their proceedings about it. The PFL is under me and it will relay its decision to us and we cannot preempt its next move,” Gastanes, also the secretary general of the Philippine Olympic Committee, said.
“There is already a proceeding on that, but we cannot say anything yet. We just have to wait on what will happen next.”
In a separate interview, PFL commissioner Coco Torre expressed his disappointment over Global’s failure to honor its commitment, citing that it would be a critical factor in assessing the team’s status in the league.
