School closed for health protocol breach
The school was found to be conducting faceto-face classes without coordination with the local government unit and authority from the Commission on Higher Education
The Borongan City government ordered a temporary closure of a private school for alleged violation of city regulations on the conduct of classes under the new normal.
Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Agda approved the suspension of the business permit and operations of Our Lady of Mercy College (OLMC) in Barangay Loc-soon for the entire August based on the recommendation of the City Legal Office.
On Tuesday, city legal officer Fernando Tanglao Jr. and executive assistant Romeo Alexis Devora, together with representatives from the City Health Office and Borongan City police, served the notice of suspension.
Tanglao said the school was found to be conducting face-to-face classes without coordination with the local government unit and authority from the Commission on Higher Education.
The school also did not require teachers and students to wear masks inside the school premises, social distancing was violated especially outside the classrooms and there were not enough handwashing facilities or disinfectants like alcohol.
Other violations were the non-checking of body temperature entering the premises, absence of foot baths and allowing entry of students even without health certificates.
Tanglao said the city government has previously issued a show cause order for the school to answer complaints about its violations.
But instead of giving details on its compliance, OLMC merely replied that it has already started following protocols.
