Use face shields while on duty, Magalong requires workers

- ALDWIN QUITASOL

BAGUIO CITY — Wearing face shields for the riding public will take effect nationwide on 15 August yet, but Mayor Benjamin Magalong has already issued an order mandating all employees, workers and other personnel in business establishments, banks and government offices to wear face shields while on duty.

Magalong stated in Executive Order (EO) 118 that there has been an increase in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections since the easing of quarantine restrictions and reminded his people to be vigilant and strictly follow health safety protocols.

“Although minimum public health standards are prescribed by national health authorities to limit risk of transmission, additional measures such as the use of face shields or transparent physical barriers must be implemented,” Magalong said.

EO 93 previously mandated workers and employees in public and satellite markets, supermarkets and grocery stores, and drivers of public utility vehicles to wear shields and masks and use gloves.

Although minimum public health standards are prescribed by national health authorities to limit risk of transmission, additional measures such as the use of face shields or transparent physical barriers must be implemented.

Magalong stated that the directive must be further expanded to include industries that have increased their operational capacity since the implementation of modified general community quarantine guidelines.

As of 5 August, Baguio has 77 active cases out of 146 confirmed infections. Three have died and 66 recovered.

Nine barangays where new cases were detected are also under lockdown until further notice: Balsigan, Concepcion Drive in Camp 7, Campo Filipino, City Camp Proper, Purok 2, 22 and 23 of Irisan, San Luis Village, Sto. Niño-Slaughter, Engineers Hill and Pacdal.
